Start Talking

Working for yourself? Need more business?

_

Regardless of what you do… lawyer, accountant, designer, acrobat, tattoo artist, electrician… here’s some FREE ADVICE 😀 :

The world’s gone full circle in terms of marketing over the last 100 years or so. Corporate ads and crafted content put out by agencies have their place (maybe). But people want to hear from people, and more quickly engage and trust people when they are real and clear on what they offer.

Stop scrolling and start talking. Maximize your mobile phone’s potential and social media’s algorithms… the tech is now so advanced and right in the palm of your hand.

How? 12 Steps:

  1. Video yourself explaining as succinctly as possible, WHAT YOU DO FOR PEOPLE/OFFER. Don’t be shy – the hardest part:)
  2. Be real, let your natural energy and passion for what you do come through.
  3. Forget what the critics will say. Don’t fear the trolls, delete junk comments on your posts and block stalkers, but engage with those genuinely challenging or asking questions, it helps you grow and shows you care and know about the subject.
  4. Don’t be perfect, just say it. Sounding over-professional sucks, don’t sound like you’re reading a CHatGTP-written corporate profile.
  5. Don’t rush what you say; each word and concept is important.
  6. Put it out on TikTok with 1 or 2 hashtags and relevant location.
  7. Minimal editing (cut-out pauses and, no effects (TikTok’s editing is advanced actually, but don’t overproduce).
  8. Try not to exceed 1 minute.
  9. Make sure your background is neat, with minimal noise around you.
  10. Once published on TikTok, download the video to your phone, post it as an FB and Insta Reel, and on LinkedIn, and X.
  11. Do it again the next week with a slight variation in your script.
  12. Once you’re over the first hurdle of getting going, you can make more videos, one a week is good, focussing on different aspects, mini-success stories (always check with clients they are ok with you mentioning them etc) – things that genuinely made YOU excited or happy… maybe you do tax, and you helped someone with a complex situation, say it, without private details…

Why start with TikTok? Great organic reach for a start, better than Insta 😲 . And also the editor and ability to download the clip afterwards – Yes, it has the TikTok logo… good, then people know you’re on TikTok as well:)

Do this for 2 to 3 months and let me know what happens:)

Stop waiting for something to happen.

This not only helps PEOPLE KNOW WHAT YOU DO but HELPS YOU focus and get your ‘ducks in a row’ which ends in you growing in confidence.

All the best:)
