Business Is About Giving

It’s often asked: What do you want to get out of life?

If ‘life’ is the sum of various components, such as personal relationships and business activity to suggest just two, then applying the question of what I want to GET out of these components in isolation might start to expose the greedy nature of this question.

Here’s a mindset flip: What do you want to give to life?

“Most people just laugh when they hear that the secret to success is giving. Then again, most people are nowhere near as successful as they wish they were.” Bob Burg

True value always triumphs in the end. I’ve seen so many people so clever about how to GET. How to TAKE. They think of business schemes to make money. It eludes them that if you give more value than you expect to get out, your success is certain. I believe this to be a universal truth, tested and proven throughout history.

Entrepreneurs that understand this flourish over time. They don’t want to take people’s money without giving them proportionate value in return.

This does not mean endlessly expending yourself to please clients or customers. When emotion is out of the way and you are sure you’ve delivered the value promised, if not a bit more, then there is no need to feel bad about politely drawing the line. Ensuring clear deliverables upfront is key.

This article is not about how far you should go to please a client, it’s about not having a beggarly mindset when it comes to business.
